Il progressive rock continua a regalare emozioni a tutti i suoi sostenitori ed appassionati fan, con una sempre crescente moderna creatività. Se gli anni '80 potevano essere considerati come il revival del progressive e i '90, gli anni della definitiva consacrazione a livello globale, gli anni 2000 sono da considerarsi come gli anni del cambiamento stilistico/espressivo, grazie alle abilità tecnico strumentali dei componenti le nuove band ed ad un nuovo approccio verso la sperimentazione e la ricerca.

In questo panorama del rock progressivo contemporaneo, alcune formazioni si sono distinte per la loro capacità di rinnovare il genere, mantenendo vivo lo spirito sperimentale che ne ha contraddistinto le origini. Tra queste, i Big Big Train, che hanno pubblicato quest'anno il loro 12° album in studio dal titolo "The Second Brightest Star", si sono conquistato un posto di rilievo grazie al loro sound evocativo che fonde la maestosità del prog classico con liriche profondamente radicate nella tradizione e nella storia britannica.
