Nel 1972 vere opere d'arte vengono pubblicate da diversi gruppi. E' davvero l'anno della definitiva consacrazione del progressive rock. I ragazzi di tutto il pianeta sono travolti da tanta bellezza e si immergono in questo epocale cambiamento fatto di musica, arte e gioia di vivere. Si sente il vero profumo degli anni '70 e ci si sente fortunati nell'appartenervi. I Genesis pubblicano foxtrot con la lunga suite Supper's Ready, la migliore di sempre, Gli Yes con Close To The Edge con l'appassionante suite omonima etc... etc...

Il 1971 è l'anno della produzione dei primi veri capolavori del genere, dischi che ascoltiamo ancora oggi e che rimarranno per sempre in quel contenitore virtuale che sarà sempre a disposizione di tutte le generazioni future. Ne voglio nominare qualcuno, Van Der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts, Genesis - Nursery Cryme, Emerson Lake & Palmer - Tarkus , Jethro Tull - Acqualung Etc...Etc... Le composizionisono più complesse, le contaminazioni con altri generi musicali sono sempre più frequenti, la ricerca del cantato perfetto " Peter Hammil, Peter Gabriel " come fosse un ulteriore strumento musicale e nuovi modi di suonare il basso (Chris Squire) e la batteria (Phil Collins) conferiscono al Progressive Rock nuove connotazioni e gli aprono nuove prospettive. Parlando con un amico, per semplificare il concetto, si diceva, Al Rock'n Roll togli il Roll (ovvero la parte ballabile) ed aggiungi a piacere, Jazz, Musica Classica, Folk e varie sperimentazione e melodie, poi dilata con arrangiamenti di varia natura la durata dei tuoi brani, ed otterrai questo che oggi è il genere musicale che noi tutti amiamo.
